Here are a few quick, easy ways you can begin to "go green"--
- Buy and use energy-saving light bulb in your home. Fluorescent bulbs last up to 12 times longer and use 2/3 less energy than regular light bulbs.
- Turn off lights in your home when not in use. Lighting makes up about 11% of your electric bill.
- Conserve water by only washing full loads of clothes and dishes. Take showers instead of bathing in the tub.
- Buy locally grown produce from your local farmers market. This will reduce the cost of fuel used in getting the produce to consumers.
- Take your electronics off stand-by. If you have appliances and other electronics that use stand-by electricity, you can save up to $200 per year.
- Recycle plastic, glass, aluminum, paper, old tires, etc. Purchase products made from recycled materials.
- Turn down the heat in your home during the winter. Lowering the thermostat by one degree can save as much as $100 per year.
- Save a tree by paying your bills on-line. Use e-mail instead of writing letters. Ask to be removed from mailing lists so you can reduce junk mail.
- Buy refills for cleaning products, shampoo and beverages instead of tossing out the old containers.
- Help clean up the polluted air by car pooling, walking, riding a bicycle or using public transportation.
Just follow these simple rules and you can make a significant impact on saving the resources of our Earth.
